Port of Buffalo

Port of Buffalo

The Port of Buffalo is owned and operated by Gateway Metroport, a subsidiary of New Enterprise Stone & Lime. It is a major Intermodal port on the Great Lakes located at the eastern end of Lake Erie with access to a 4,000 foot rail siding. It is 22 miles from the Welland Canal’s terminus on Lake Erie and is the first major U.S. port of call encountered after leaving the canal. This allows the Port to serve large Great Lakes vessels as well as international vessels arriving via the St. Lawrence Seaway and Welland Canal.

The Port has excellent facilities for handling both inbound and outbound bulk material shipments. The Port handles shipments of salt, limestone, metallurgical coke, coal, grain, stone, and other bulk materials.

The pier is more than 3,000 feet long with 27 feet of water (Seaway standard depth) alongside and can accommodate multiple vessels simultaneously. Two hundred acres located on or near deep water are set aside for bulk cargo storage and shipment. Self-unloaders and conventional bulk carriers can discharge and load while sheltered by the harbor breakwall.

Please contact the Port for additional information.
